I started hooking rugs in 1975 after a long-time love affair with
antique hooked
rugs. I found a "real" hook in an antique shop, unearthed some very old
books about rug hooking in the public library, and hooked alone as a
hobby for ten years before I discovered
the extended world of rug hookers across the country.
What fun I've had since I joined that world! I have now designed and hooked
hundreds of rugs; traveled and sold rugs at major folk art shows from
Minnesota to Maine; been named to Early American Life's
"Best
Craftsmen" list; had rugs pictured in Country Living
and Rug Hooking Magazine, made new friends at hooking camps and
gatherings
in
many states; and spent peaceful, creative, and happy hours with my rug
work.
Now retired from my "work life" as a high school administrator, I have
moved from Ohio to Maryland where I live with my adult granddaughter.
While I still sell at several select folk art shows near my home, I now
concentrate my rug work on creating commission pieces, teaching small
groups, and holding rug workshops and camps.
